European
Endowment for Democracy (EED)
The European Endowment for Democracy (EED) is an
independent, grant-making organisation, established in 2013 by the European
Union (EU) and EU member states as an autonomous International Trust Fund to
foster democracy in the European Neighbourhood (Eastern Partnership – EaP – and
Middle East and North Africa – MENA), the Western Balkans, Turkey and beyond.
EED supports civil society organisations, pro-democracy
movements, civic and political activists, and independent media platforms and
journalists working towards a pluralistic, democratic political system. These
can also include newly created or non-registered organisations, informal
platforms, youth groups and individuals. In particular, EED supports those who
cannot be supported by other donors and existing EU instruments. Support is
contingent on adherence to democratic values, respect for human rights and
observance of principles of non-violence.
European
Institute for Asian Studies (EIAS)
The European Institute for Asian Studies (EIAS) is a
leading Think Tank based in Brussels, the capital of the European Union,
focusing on EU-Asia relations since its founding in 1989. As a policy research
centre, its aim is to promote understanding between the European Union and
Asia. In addition, it aims to strengthen ties between Asia and Europe through
in-depth, comprehensive research, as well as acting as a knowledge exchange
platform and forum for dialogue between policymakers, members of academia and
think tanks, civil society and the corporate sector.
Geographically, EIAS focuses on South Asia, North-East
Asia, South-East Asia, and Central Asia, covering a wide range of policy
domains. By doing so, EIAS seeks to provide knowledge to policy makers in
Europe and Asia, as well as on a global scale, offering academic and hands-on
expertise to bear on decision-making processes with regard to EU-Asia affairs
and developments in Asia, such as free trade and strategic partnership
agreements, and other key developments.
European
Neighbourhood Council (ENC)
European Neighbourhood Council (ENC) is an independent
think tank that conducts research and implements projects with the aim of
strengthening a common European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), Enlargement Policy
and the promotion of a Global Strategy for the European Union’s (EU) Foreign
and Security Policy. ENC conducts research that aims towards improved dialogue
and neighbourhood coordination among European Union (EU) Member States, EU
Accession Countries, European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) countries, including
also the ‘Neighbours of the Neighbours’ (Central Asian Republics, Gulf
Cooperation Council, Iraq, Iran, and Sahel Countries).
Through research publications, partnerships, trainings and
policy events – we aim to narrow the foreign policy gap between existing EU
Member States, neighbouring countries, and Wider Europe. These efforts enhance
shared European values of democracy, security, economic growth, and education,
while guaranteeing a stable, diverse and developing Wider ENP. Represented
cross-regionally by EU and non-EU members in our Academic Council, ENC scholars
provide the guiding platform for our activities on an annual basis.

Center for
European Neighborhood Studies (CENS)
The Center for European Neighborhood Studies (CENS) is an
independent research center of the Central European University (CEU) located in

capitalizing on its Central European perspective and regional embeddedness.
The strategic focus of the center is academic and
policy-oriented research on the place and role of the European Union in its
rapidly changing and increasingly volatile neighborhood. Through its research,
CENS seeks to contribute to the understanding of the environment where the EU,
its member states and partners need to (co)operate, and it aims at supporting
the constructive development of these relations by providing opportunities for
discussion and exchange. The center’s geographic focus areas are Central and
Eastern Europe, the Western Balkans and Turkey, Eastern Europe, the South
Caucasus and Russia.
Euro-Gulf
Information Centre (EGIC)
The Euro-Gulf Information Centre (EGIC), headquartered in Rome, Italy, has prioritised a single goal: to advance
understanding of the Gulf through dialogue and engagement. The work undertaken
in pursuit of that objective is based on constructing socio-political,
strategic, cultural and economic communities composed of both Europeans and
people from the Arabian Gulf. Through specialised, tailored platforms, EGIC is
able to assist in making important advances in human-to-human contact points
and contribute to stimulate positive relations. Additionally, EGIC provides
information services to individuals and organisations that seek to deepen their
understanding of the main trends unfolding both in Europe and the Gulf. EGIC is
a strong believer in Open Access materials and has removed all paywalls to its
publications including: Information Sheets, Commentaries, Reports, Weekly
Bulletins and our monthly newspaper, Dynamics. Additionally, EGIC organises —
both in physical and online platforms — a wide assortment of events ranging
from conferences and seminars to workshops, art exhibitions and specialised training.

European
Parliament Think Tank – Facts Sheets covering European Neighbourhood Policy
“The European
neighbourhood policy (ENP) applies to Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus,
Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, Palestine,
Syria, Tunisia and Ukraine. It aims to strengthen the prosperity, stability and
security of all. It is based on democracy, the rule of law and respect for
human rights and is a bilateral policy between the EU and each partner country,
with regional cooperation initiatives: the Eastern Partnership (EaP) and the
Union for the Mediterranean.”
European
Commission – 2015 Review of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP)
“On 18 November 2015,
the European Commission and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and
Security Policy presented the main lines of the review, spelling out the
Union’s new approach to its eastern and southern neighbours.
In the reviewed ENP the
EU will focus on areas that matter most. The stabilisation of the region, in
political, economic, and security related terms, will be at the heart of the
new policy. The EU’s own stability is built on democracy, human rights and the
rule of law and we will continue to make the case for these universal values.”
